Guests:  Jim Gibbons, Tom Taylor, Chris Bensel

G Benesh, President, Called the meeting to order at 3:03 pm.  GB referenced upcoming CMC events starting with the Kick-Off Breakfast on April 12.  GB will be out of town and Spence Groshong, VP, will be the MC for this event.   Tom Taylor said that an announcement will be made at the breakfast regarding responding to Golf Genius emails, and that an updated “mini-seminar” will be offered to the Membership in late April or May.

Jim Gibbons, taking the place of Perry Esterson, will update the Board on Course Maintenance with a debriefing on May 6th.

S Groshong :  2025 Invitational   First announcements will be sent out next week with a link to register.  SG said that Chris B wants the 56 teams (2 man) registered by June 1 in order to get the ‘special’ jackets ordered prior to Event day in August. The thought is July 1 is a more practical last day to register – jackets could be back-ordered.  Tim Bonino will write a promotion for the Invitational in the Villager column.  For the Event, there can be no more than a 10 stroke differentialbetween teammates (partners).  So far, there has been one registration – Tim Bonino!

Richard McLeod:  Membership  Richard reports latest figures:  229 CMC Members  (27 new)  with  32 Nine- Hole members.  63 members want to be notified of both 18 hole and 9 hole games.  Last season in May there were 234 total members registered.  At our “New Members Coffee & Donuts” (March) we had 11 new members plus 6 Board members.  G Benesh welcomed all and showed them how to use the CMC website.   SOCIAL Update:  Norton’s will handle the April 12th Kick-Off Breakfast.  RM mentioned that CMC members will be needed to help with set-up and take-down for most of the Events held in the Clubhouse and the Pavilion.  May 14th, Men’s Night Out (MNO), will be catered by Busters BBQ.  Our cost is $26 – plan to charge $31 for 18 holes, $29 for 9 holes.  The CMC sponsored Memorial Day Couples Event, May 26, will be catered by Norton’s and the cost to us is $35, and will charge $40 /person.  This is a ‘high end’ dinner we are contracted for with Norton’s.  Next season perhaps go back to having hot dogs & hamburgers to keep the price down (in the spaghetti dinner range) if couplessuggest it.  Richard added that CMC is ‘committed’ to catering contracts until the MNO on Sept 17.

Mike Williams – Treasurer   Updated Balance Sheet sent to all the CMC Board members this week.  MW added that the Mar 15 Spaghetti Dinner cleared over $1000 for the Charbonneau Cup prize fund. Those Funds have been put in a restricted account.

Gene Harp – Tournaments  G Harp commented that 110 people were served at the spaghetti dinner, the Band was just a $200 expense, and that he may do it again next March (2026) .   He added that John Meyers was the key to producing the menu & dinner for a crowd  that size.  Also, acknowledged the help from fellow board members.

Tim Bonino – Publicity  Tim said the CMC column in the Villager will now be limited to a word count – lower than in previous columns.  His focus will be on:  Upcoming major events, Reminders, the Invitational, & Pictures.  Will skip reporting on event results and finishes, but acknowledge holes-in-one and essentials.  Most important may be that members avoid BYOB opportunities.  All CMC Board members must be vigilant to keep our events NON-BYOB.  It was forcefully pointed out by Chris Bensel and Mike Williams the potential liability from a drunken accident (post event) would be devastating financially to all of us.

Bill Stout – Scoring & GG Bill’s idea of an actual sign on the 1st tee box, asking foursomes to wait to start until the group ahead in on the green, has worked to avoid backups and play delay. We now, on CMC events, have a ‘start’ and ‘finish’ time on the scorecards.  These seem to increase ‘pace-of-play’.  In fact, Bill has generated data to that effect – showing now that the last two event rounds (18 hole group) are averaging 3.4 hours (which is under the suggested 1 hour 45 minutes/nine holes).  It works!  Bill will conduct an updated Scoring Committee meeting with Tom Taylor on April 14.

“Lift, Clean & Place” was discussed by all.  Our initial season Events are normally pretty soggy.  Each foursome needs to know how the event will be played that day.   Jim Gibbons explained the proper method for L, C & P.  We will not rely on ‘cart path only’ signs since the fairways have been draining much better.  It would serve our Events better if a sign were created and located on the 1st tee box to alert all players.   Gene Harp suggested that our Events would play L, C & P until the Kick-Off Breakfast on April 12th.

Chris Bensel said 60 new carts will be coming in May, and that the “Cart Barn” near #1 Yellow will be ready soon.  The new practice center netting is installed, and the ‘practice sand trap’ is ready to use.  He again pointed out the seriousness of following the rules of liquor control at Charbonneau.

Mike Brown – OGA & Rules  Mike said that CGC is doing very well, all 3 courses are in great shape for this time of the year – Andrew has done a wonderful job as our Greenskeeper.  There will be new rakes for the traps on Yellow.  Some sand traps need more sand – depth is much too shallow.  Gretchen from OGA has reviewed our Courses and will meet with Mike before our May CMC meeting to give us updated handicap information.

G Benesh   Greg added that a list for Couples Events has been established in the Pro Shop.  The list is for both men and women looking to get paired up for that specific event.  Couples need to sign up May 10th for the Memorial Day Event and Dinner.

Greg adjourns the meeting at 4:27 pm.

Joe Fieweger – Secretary

NEXT Board Meeting will be Tuesday, May 6.
