Charbonneau Men’s Club (CMC) Board Meeting

     December 2, 2025 Clubhouse Card Room @ 3 pm

Attending:  Benesh, Brown, Fieweger, Groshong, Johnson, Robinson, Stuber and Williams

Absent:  Larson, Roy, Stout and Vaughn

Invited Guests:  Bensel, Gibbons and Taylor

Greg Benesh, President, provided pizza and beverages as a treat for the CMC Board.  This has become an annual ‘last meeting of the year’ tradition started by Greg.

G Benesh reviewed upcoming events and deadlines:  Guidebook on the website, next CMC Board meeting Jan 6, Chili-Chowder scholarship fundraiser Jan 14, and in February to begin thinking of replacement board members.

Jay Robinson Membership: Jay reports that 2026 membership to date is 70.  This is normal for the 1st month to sign up.  Most renewals have been done with CC on-line;  10% – 15% via check.  Lloyd Johnson said he will release another email notice to sign up in mid – December.

Chris Bensel (CGC GM & PGA pro) gave an update on what the maintenance crews are addressing this month.

Yellow:  #s 7 & 8 have ‘worm casts’ hurting the fairways – will use a chemical to get rid of it then rely on the birds feeding on the worms.

New trees (to plant):  Red #8 will get two on the left side to protect property.  Green #3 will get two on the right side near the green fopr same reason.  Also, Green #9 and Yellow #4 both getting 2 trees each for protection.

CB will be looking for ‘new’ members for the golf (CGC) Board with 3-4 retiring after several years serving (Bray, Teunon, Shevlin).

CB adds CBC buying $200k worth of new machines for better cutting of fairways and rough.  $70 – $80k worth of sand to top dress the fairways and specifically the areas carts are hurting when off the paths.

CB says that to add an inch of asphalt and totally fix the cart paths would cost $1mm.  Better option to fix areas where carts shouldn’t be, and insist that carts stay on the paths until pro shop announces otherwise.

CB said he gets thousands of player surveys after they play here. A new survey of the CMC membership would be important but probably not tell him anything new.

CB May have changes for the CMC sponsored Holiday Couples Events in 2026.   Participation is always an issue:  of the 245 CMC members only about 70-75 are active players (same with the other associations).

Spence Groshong – VP:  The survey he and John Nguyen created will be sent to the membership mid-month.  Results will be shared at the next Board meeting.  SG may have “AI” analyze the findings.

Larry Stuber – Social:  Larry said he and Michael Roy will be talking with existing caterers and potential new ones in January.  LS pointed out that the event pricing/person likely includes ‘tips’.  In the 2025 season, costs per player were: $24 Breakfasts, $26 MNO and $35 for Couples events.  Stay the same in ’26?  Also, spoke about providing alcohol drinks at the breakfasts.  It was noted that only about 10% of event participants seem to have embibed.  Also, Lindy Anderson has an OLCC license to serve drinks.

Mike Williams – Treasurer: Mike sent out the most recent Balance sheet and Income statement ahead of the meeting.  We are in great shape after paying the $800 for Hole-in-Ones, and $6000 for the Scholarships.  The two accounts currently hold over $20,000.

Greg Benesh – President:  Charbonneau Cup and the discrepancy between the money collected, money reimbursed and the accounting & cost of the raffle prizes.  The Tournament Committee ran the successful major event.  The problem was in the gathering or not of receipts and reporting monetary information to our Treasurer.  The Committee may have just lost track.  Spence G (Charbonneau Cup participant) won a $100 CMC membership for 2026 but was told to get it from the CMC treasury.  (This we will do)

Input from Lloyd J, Tom T, Jay R and Mike W was that we chalk this up to a learning experience and move on.  It was as much our fault for not getting the accounting as it was that of the Committee’s.

Larry S proposed a MOTION, 2nd by Lloyd J:   Carried by a show of hands.

Joe Fieweger Secretary – Proposed that the CMC ‘sponsor’ a book signing for Kerry Eggers (retired sports writer and Charbonneau resident) in Jan or Feb in the Clubhouse.  The Board would provide light refreshments for the event.  Book signing would be opened to all residents and their friends.   The Board agreed to pursue this.  Joe and Larry S will work together with the Author for a date/time/room and with publicity.

Greg B – President adjourned the meeting @ 4:45 p

NEXT CMC Board meeting:    January 6 @ 3 PM
