Charbonneau Men’s Club (CMC) Board Meeting MINUTES
Tuesday, September 2, 2025 Clubhouse (Card Room)
Attending: Benesh, Bonino, Brown, Groshong, Fieweger, McLeod, Harp, Tyler, Stout, Johnson, Vaughn and Williams.
Absent: No one
Invited Guests: Jim Gibbons, Tom Taylor
President Greg Benesh started the meeting at 3:00 pm. Greg reminded us of our upcoming CMC schedule: MNO 9/17, Community Day 9/24, Board Meeting 10/7, Annual Business Meeting 10/18, and first meeting of the New Board 11/4.
Jim Gibbons – Golf Club Board Update: #1 aim of the Grounds crews is the tee boxes: leveling ones that need it, more importantly re-aligning the tee box direction on some holes. Some hole (tee box) are mis-aligned by as much as 20 degrees. Second, the sand/seed boxes won’t be replaced – they start to germinate is 6- 8 days then are useless. Too much sand/seed mix put on the tee boxes in uneven fashion damages the mower blades. The “cart fee” funds were used to rebuild the ramp to #3 Red tee box, and the road crossing between #5 Red and #6 Red tee. Jim noted that a home on # 9 Green left of the OB stakes has had 9 windows broken this year. C Bensel may plant some small trees to add protection there.
Richard McLeod – Membership & Social: Richard said our CMC membership is still at 250 for this season.
The recent Labor Day Couples Event had 64 players and 2 extra for dinner. The new caterer, “It’s Party Time”, provided a great meal! Richard has had positive reviews from the dinner. They are an obvious choice for some future Events. Thanks for providing them a chance, Richard!
This year, as happens most seasons, the most popular Couples Golf/Dinner Event was Memorial Day (120), followed by 4th of July (80-90), then Labor Day. Feeling is that Labor Day is more hectic for most couples. “Men’s Night Out” September 17 will have Norton’s cater – with menu theme being ‘Octoberfest’.
Mike Williams – Treasurer: Mike provided the latest Balance Sheet & Income Statement showing the CMC will break even or lose about $500 (from our season budget projection). Mike also presented the 2026 CMC Financial Budget. A MOTION was made by Greg Benesh to accept the new Budget. MOTION was seconded, and by unanimous voice vote, the CMC Board accepted the new Budget. The new Budget will be posted on the website with the CMC Minutes this month.
Gene Harp/Tim Tyler – Tournaments: Gene and Tim hosted a pre- Board Meeting get together to review facts and assignments for the September 27th Charbonneau Cup Event. The top 36 point earners, 7:30 am shotgun start, pizza lunch in the Activity Center, major $ prize awards, KPs, and excellent raffle prizes. Cut-off for the ‘top 36’ will be after play on Sept 10th. Some of the Board members not making the ‘top 36’ will help with the set up and clean up. Should be a premier Event!
Gene and Tim will script the first ‘draft’ of the 2026 CMC Tournament schedule before this Nov 4.
It should be noted that Board member, Lloyd Johnson, donated $300 to the Charbonneau prize fund. And that Mark Willett donated $750 for prizes to the next Member/Member Tournament planned for Sept 13th. We are all most appreciative!
Bill Stout – Scoring: Bill and Tom Taylor have been working on updating/changing the GG scorecards for certain Men’s Club events. This will be standardized shortly.
Bill presented an update of ‘Pace of Play’ data showing that the CMC Events are averaging 3 hours 33 minutes/ 18 hole round. The data Bill generates is valuable not only for pace of play but also which events have become most popular this season. The average participation for Wed & Sat games is at 54; yet when the game is “Sweet 16” the participation is 68.
Tom Vaughn – Nine Hole Group: With 32 signed up to play tomorrow; Tom noted that this will be their monthly $5 Scramble event. He and Joe Sharpsteen have done a great job of ‘piloting’ the 9 Hole Group from 12 participants to nearly 36 on some days! They have made the games interesting, and used GG to do the pairings. Earlier this year, 9 Hole Couples and 9 Hole NMO were tried but never gained traction. If any in the 9 Hole Group wish to participate they are willing to play 18.
Lloyd Johnson – Website: No issues at this time.
Tim Bonino – Publicity (Villager Columnist): Tim has just 2 more columns to write for the CMC. These are beloved columns and wish we could get him to continue. Thanks for the amusing and well researched columns of this past year, Tim.
Tim will devote his time as Chairman of the Charbonneau Golf Scholarship program. He will review with us who the finalists are in October. The $ is distributed in late December.
Mike Brown – OGA/Handicaps: Mike will provide me with an OGA update after he had discussions with Kelly N. This update will be posted in the Minutes.
Mike said that current CMC member, Jay Robinson, will join the Handicap and Membership Committees for next season.
Greg Benesh added that other New Board Members, besides Jay, will be Don Larson working on Tournaments and Larry Stubor on Social Events.
Greg Benesh reminded all – next CMC Board Meeting will be October 7.
Greg adjourns this Meeting at 3:47 pm
