August 5, 2025 Card Room of the Clubhouse
Attending: Benesh, Bonino, Brown, Fieweger, Harp, Johnson, McLeod, Stout, Tyler, Vaughn, Williams. Absent: Groshong (HOA meeting)
Invited Guests: Gibbons, Taylor, and C Bensel
President Greg Benesh begins the Meeting at 3:00 pm in the Card Room of the Clubhouse. Upcoming Events: Couples Labor Day Golf and Dinner Sept 1; Next Board Meeting and 2026 CMC Budget Sign Off Sept 2; Men’s 9 Hole Group Championship Sept 13 & 15; Men’s Night Out (MNO) Sept 17.
Jim Gibbons: CGC comments. Tee Boxes will rotate tee markers and try to level those needing it. New Asst. Supt. Doing a very good job & responds to all questions. JG asks, “What do we like about the course this season?” Fairways are excellent, trim around the greens (fringe) is very consistent, cart gal experiment, and larger tee-time flexibility. “Needs improvement?” Available on course grass seed/sand mix, repair to specific cart path spots i.e. # 5 Red tee box, and fix drainage of some wet/very soft on course spots. Still minor irritation with youth behavior,’ lack of decorum’ playing during twilight weekday (3 – 8 pm).
JG and JL will schedule another Rules Seminar in the Fall.
Richard McLeod: Membership As of today (Aug 5) the CMC shows 250 members! 37 of these are new this season. 36 are 9 Hole play Only – 68 signed up for both/either 18 Hole or 9 Hole. MOTION: Shall the CMC reduce the yearly dues for new members (from $120 to $100) if the person joins CMC for the last two Months (Sept & Oct). MOTION – Carried via Voice vote. As of now, CMC Membership dues cost: November thru December (for upcoming season) is $100, January thru August is $120, and Sept thru October is $100.
Greg Benesh asks that we move the Annual Breakfast Meeting and golf Scramble (in 2026) from scheduled date of October 17 to October 3. Reasons: Weather and ability to catch more of the ‘snow birds’ prior to their leaving town.
Mike Williams: Treasurer Mike sent (prior to this meeting) to Board Members not only Current P/L and Balance Sheet but also the CMC 2026 Budget for consideration and adoption at the next Board Meeting.
Gene Harp & Tim Tyler: Tournaments Gene explained that The Club Championships will be played on consecutive tee times, not on a ‘shotgun’ start. Chris Bensel said he is given just six ‘shotgun’ starts for events each year and they have been accounted for. It was explained by JG that for a shotgun start, the Course has to be empty of players as much as 2 hours before the start, and maintenance must ready all 18 holes earlier than normal. This is an obvious loss of revenue for the club. The Charbonneau Cup will feature/honor the top 36 CMC point leaders. These CMC Members have supported the most scheduled events, and played well. It will have an early (7:30 am) Shotgun start. Gene & Tim have worked to increase the $ prize value significantly with funds from the Spaghetti feed last winter. This will be a Premier Event with Lunch, Presentations and Prizes in the Activity Center on Sept 27. Last chance to crack into the top ‘36’ players will be Sept 10. Tim Bonino has crafted the publicity for the Charbonneau Cup with his next Villager CMC column.
Bill Stout: Scoring Bill said that the Scoring ‘crew’ has done well this season, including the newest member, Don Larson. Bill handed out the updated ‘Pace of Play’ data for the CMC events. It shows and average 18 hole round of 3 hours and 31 minutes – on pace. The average # of players per event is 54, with high of 68. Bill’s data has been helpful evidence to keep our foursomes moving.
Tom Vaughn: 9 Hole Group Tom, with help from Joe Sharpsteen, has really expanded the 9 Hole Group participation. There will be 36 players pre-signed up to play on the next Wednesday. They have creatively provided the group with a monthly Scramble and with the preprinted scorecards for Wed and Fri rounds. This also allows them to enter the player’s scores into GG for updated GHIN handicaps. Many in the group like to play in the MNO with the 18 hole players – some will come for the just the dinner.
Lloyd Johnson – Website Lloyd has done a wonderful job updating the CMC website this season. Access to events and to results has never been easier for the members. Lloyd has an important business engagement in TX soon to present at a national seminar.
Tim Bonino – Publicity Tim has already created another outstanding CMC column for the Villager. He will highlight the Charbonneau Cup details, the Club Championships, as well as historic facts about the game of Golf. Unfortunately, we will lose Tim as our Publicity ‘guy’ after December this year. We’ll have to find a new Scribe. Say it ain’t so, Tim.
Mike Brown – OGA Mike anticipates the our fees for GHIN will increase for next season. Mike has a meeting with OGA mid-August, more details on our Course Rating.
Greg Benesh asks that we each ‘write up’ our Board Position responsibilities to review at the next meeting Sept 2. As we continue to look for ‘potential’ CMC Board candidates among our membership, it will be important to describe succinctly what the responsibilities are for each position.
President G Benesh Adjourns this Board Meeting @ 3: 57 pm
