CMC Board Meeting –  May 6, 2025

Charbonneau Clubhouse – Card Room   Meeting MINUTES

Attending:  Benesh, Bonino (remotely), Brown, Fieweger, Groshong, Harp, Johnson, McLeod, Stout, Tyler, Vaughn.  Invited Guests:  Jim Gibbons, Tom Taylor

Absent:  Williams

President Greg Benesh calls the Board Meeting to Order @ 3:00 pm.  Greg asked J Gibbons when may be a good time for a golf rules seminar.  Jim indicates there is now a very instructive rules section accessible on the CMC website.   Yes, he (Jim) will provide a rules seminar.   The best time to engage most people?  At a ‘Men’s Night Out’?  After a Couples Event ( i.e. Memorial Day)?  A Zoom meeting inviting all three golf Associations?  The Consensus is a separate scheduled meeting on a weeknight (Wednesday or Thursday) to include Joann Linville in June.

Bill Stout – Alert!  The Spring Handicap Tournament scheduled for Sat May 10th and Sat May 17th has just 42 players signed up.  The second day (5/17) is a shotgun morning start.  It was agreed to send out 1 more membership email inviting players to sign-up, and pointing out that this Tournament is 3 flights.  Gene Harp suggested that some players will shy away from the competition, believing that they have little chance to win anything.  He stressed this was untrue with the CMC payouts.

Richard McLeod Social   There is very little chance to change any of the Event caterers and venues for the ’25 CMC season.  Dates, locations, prices and menus are locked in.   RM explained these agreements were determined before the CMC March meeting.  It was important to decide and secure the room, times and caterer, especially with holidays involved, as early as possible.  RM added that the time to review contracted caterers is in January.

Next Event:   NMO May 14th catered by Busters BBQ.  Our cost $27

Then:  Couples Memorial Day + Dinner May 26th by Nortons.  Our cost $37

The charge for the “Game” is $3 for 9 Hole players;   $5 for 18 Hole.

Jim GibbonsCGC updates The ‘Cart Barn’ is almost finished – just off #1 Yellow.  There is now a small “turf farm” just beyond the #7 Red Course green.  It is roped-off and provides a free drop from the area.  If the price is right for sand;  there will be filling in the bunkers on the Red Course. Jim pointed out that good sand traps take months for settling and compacting.

**** Note: to send a card to Rose Mason thanking her for her group recently planting flowers on the Courses.

Spence Groshong Invitational    Just 5 entries submitted this far.  Spence feels Chris B may extend the registration date, 30 days, to July 1.  Chris is concerned about getting the order placed in enough time for the FG shirts.   Still confusing on why so many players are delaying their applications.  T Bonino will continue to write up the Invitational in the Villager.  L Johnson said the CMC website has all the Invitational information on it now.

Mike WilliamsTreasurer  Mike provided an update Balance Sheet and Income Statement to all Board Members.  The Club is in very good financial condition at this time.

Richard McLeod Membership   RM reports there are 232 members (28 are new).  There were 36 non-renewals for various reasons.  We may contact again some on this list.  Last year, 234, at this time.

Gene Harp & Tim Tyler Tournaments  The Notice for MNO will come to the membership on Wednesday May 7.  This session turned to discussing Pace of Play.

Bill Stout – Scoring   Bill provided very detailed information on ALL CMC events pace times this year.  The information was broken down to specific foursomes!  It shows quick finishing times, slow finishing times, and the averages.  Gives us a good idea of how long an 18 hole should take (3 hrs. 25 min) if ‘ready golf’ is played, walking between shots is brisk, and not needing to wait on the green for all to putt out.  Should certain individuals or foursomes be contacted?  Unresolved.

Tom Vaughn9 Hole Group  Tom and Joe Sharpsteen have built this Group up to now having 24 to 29 playing both Wednesday and Friday.  T Vaughn looking to get the handicap “pops” put on the GG scorecards.

Tim BoninoPublicity (Villager)  Tim continues to draft excellent CMC columns for the Villager with human interest information (heart health) as well as CMC upcoming Events reminders.  Much appreciated.

Mike BrownOGA  Mike sent in the required ‘paperwork’ to register Our Course(s).  He reports that there has been no notice yet of any fee changes.

Greg Benesh – President   Greg wants to have us each write up our CMC Board ‘job descriptions’ to have these for the August meeting.  This will help us to be specific in describing what we do to attract potential new Board members.

It was brought up…. Would the CMC have interest in attending a seminar on Physical Therapy, golf exercises, avoiding injuries, etc. by a practicing Dr.?   The answer was yes, but speak with the CCC to be more inclusive of more than just the golf associations.  Will do so.

G Benesh Adjourned the Meeting at 4:22  pm

Joe Fieweger,  CMC Secretary  (May 6, 2025)
