President G Benesh calls meeting to order 3:02 pm (Card room of the Club house)
Greg was told by Brooke D in the Charbonneau office that our last CMC Board meeting left the Card room a mess. Think Brooke may have confused us with some other group. We will be mindful.
New Season (’25) will start November 5th.
Perry Esterson – Notes from recent Golf maintenance meeting.
No more food catering through the Café; instead will refer to an approved caterer list for future events. Café is short staffed for recent events and prefers to just handle the daily food prep.
C Bensel will trim around all ponds, aeration of ‘greens’ expected in late Sept.
OLCC new rules mean no more BYOB to paid CMC events. BYOB may be Ok if the event is free, although, still under CGC review at this time. OLCC now is more aggressive and concerned with liability issues. Chris Bensel may want to take over the Holiday couples events – nothing definite, these are CMC sponsored events.
GB – Labor Day Couples Event had 50 couples (105 people). 5 non- golfers just for dinner. We should be able to get as many as 70 couples for these Holiday CMC sponsored events.
S Groshong – The Invitational wrap up. SG created a survey querstionaire and presented it to the Board members. Good questions and well done. G Harp suggested when SG sends this to the Invitational participants, it could to all current (242) CMC members. SG asked that additional survey/question ides be sent to him, and added that the survey could be expected before the end of September. Right now the Invitational slot for ’25 is still the end of the 1st week of August.
R McLeod – Last Men’s Night Out of the season will Sept 18th. Cash bar? B Stout suggested that drink prices be discounted for CMC members. Buster’s BBQ will cater.
Last food/beverage Event will be the Full Breakfast Oct 19 (free to members). G Harp, certified OLCC server, traditionally will serve alcoholic beverages.
Chris Bensel – The new OLCC rules are ALL about Liability. He cited examples of lawsuits, adding that the server, the facility, and the association could all be Libel for a bad accident. CB said that the CGC and CCC will be increasing their insurance liability coverage, that we should be the same. (Alcohol indoors is a CCC issue first – alcohol outdoors is a CGC issue first) Chris feels the OLCC will be watching closely.
Questions for Chris: How many CGC members are not CMC members? Will find out. Can we have an ‘empty buffer’ of 2 tee times before the start of CMC events Wed & Sat to Improve pace of play? No. Can we start our Wed and Sat events at 7 am instead of 8 am in the summer? No, some in the first groups won’t show up.
CB regarding the Invitational: Overall – worked out great! Tribute to SG for the sponsors and the CWGA for their help. The $275 price is not out of line. CB thinks that moving it to Sept may get more players and the weather could be cooler.
G Harp and T Taylor suggested changing the start time and format to: no practice round, just two 18 hole tournament rounds, plus the normal Invitational events. CB also said that three times this year we have tried to include 9 hole Couples in the Holiday events but it doesn’t work. It was a good try.
M Williams – Mike send out the Balance sheet before the meeting. He also said he is getting a quote for higher liability coverage for the CMC. Appears that we will break even this year, project a loss in ’25. MW suggests a dues increase. G Harp makes a MOTION to increase the CMC dues to coverage To $100 if paid from Nov 1, 2024 to Dec 31, 2024, and $120 after Jan 1, 2025. MOTION was seconded by TB; Voice vote was taken and by unanimous consent the MOTION carried. It was added that the dues can now be paid via credit card. Will there be a drop off in membership? Perhaps, but not likely.
G Harp and T Tyler – Tournaments: The 32 eligible for the Charbonneau Cup will get invitations. It will be a 2 day event (Fri & Sat) starting 9/27, with a shotgun start Sat am.
Note: CMC member David Holland Hole-In-One July 27 – Green #7
B Stout – Scoring Committee will get together with the Tournament Committee after the Charby Cup to define the schedule for ’25 season.
M Brown – OGA & Rules Recent meeting asks all to play from the “Drop Zone” signs now next to the pond hazards. GUR to be determined by the foursome.
G Benesh – MOTION to ask Tom Vaughn to fill the vacant CMC Board position. MOTION seconded by TB and put to a voice vote. MOTION carried by unanimous vote. GB will notify Tom.
GB – President’s meeting with other associations and CB – Pink Ball has turned into an event “The Colors of Cancer” to be held this Fall with proceeds from golf and silent auction going to OHSU.
Meeting adjourned at 4:42 pm
